Full rest for fatigued feet is not a good choice

A company manufacturing insoles meets its clients’ specific requirements that might range from orthopaedic insoles to corrective insoles and include sportsmen’s needs. Therefore, the manufacture focus should be on items that help any client segment. A common inconvenience among sportspeople, especially runners, is the repetition of the same movements that may easily involve foot overloading. This leads to plantar fasciitis, the most common cause of heel pain. If not cared for the pain may move to the forefoot (leaving the tiptoes uninvolved) and sometimes even "climb” up to the leg. «This problem should not be underrated — says Franco Carnelli, in charge of the Orthopaedic and Traumatology Unit at IRCCS Multimedica in Sesto San Giovanni (MI) — as it involves the plantar short muscles and the arcuate ligament covering them: a very thick, resistant but poorly elastic fibrous sheath joining the inner plantar area of the heel with the toe basis». «Overweight, distances longer than the training allows for, an Achilles tendon too short and possible anatomical imperfections worsening the load balance, e.g. flat foot (where the sheath is over-tensioned) or a claw-foot (where it is over-shortened) — says Carnelli — influence the functions of said sheath, thus greatly increasing the tensioning upon it.

How can plantar fasciitis be prevented? «Shoes with an adequate shock-absorption of the heel are fundamental, — ends Respizzi — as well as avoiding run on particularly hard grounds and always performing specific stretching exercises for the fore- and rear muscles of the lower limbs».
